Happy to report that Ted has cleared the drive! I can park on it again, which is good, because I was getting tired of parking in a ditch and climbing out the Landy and into a hawthorn bush and mud.
The woodshed is overflowing with logs. When it is light I will take a picture. The bad news is that we heard from the guys installing our fancy upgraded heating system: they still haven’t received the back-boiler from Hunter Stoves yet, so we’ll probably be heating on gas for the next month.
I had to order two more gas bottle this week – the first delivery since March. I was relieved to see that the prices haven’t gone up much since last winter: £88.20. But compare that to 2005 when we moved here and two gas bottles cost around £60. How quickly we use them depends on the weather now. It’s been pretty mild so far.
Anyway, a big thanks to the neighbours for doing such as grand job with trees. Next winter all four cottages will be just that bit cozier.

Ted next door has been busy with the chainsaw. He has been doing a fantastic job at cutting up the massive willow trees that were dumped – sorry, delivered – by the highways guys the other week (see earlier post). I can almost see the driveway again.
By the time Ted is done, all four cottages are going to have a couple of tonnes of firewood each for the cost of his chainsaw fuel and oil. Nice one! The only downside is that we won’t be able to use the wood until next winter. In the meantime we still have plenty of seasoned ash from the Wye National Nature Reserve which is keeping us warm on this dark, rainy afternoon.

As some of you may know, I have been lucky enough to get a part time job at Kent and the Wider World (KWW), part of Commonwork, also in Kent.
Fab, but I realised that going back into the “real world” means I need a few things: one of which is a diary. We have a giant wall calendar, (that I have been fretting about how to get a 2009 version), but I haven’t needed a small diary this year, as I only needed to remember when baby group was, or when vaccinations were due. So of course I hit eBay, but really couldn’t find anything I would be happy bringing into an office, and most of the diaries were from commercial sellers.
Then I looked into printing out something that would tide me over until the new year, when I stumbled across the amazing people at http://www.diyplanner.com This site has absolutely everything I need. Not just printable diaries, but whole organizing templates akin to a very large and expensive Filofax. Print and/or adapt what you need, on recycled paper and make the perfect diary/organiser/planner. Fantastic!
So I have been busy printing out my new diary, with actions lists and the like, on scrap paper. I found a slip cover for an old A5 diary some clips and voila! Problem solved in a far more satisfactory manner than I thought would be possible.
